The Pharmacy Technician (PHT) diploma program from Algonquin Careers Academy provides the hands-on clinical training, practical skills and expert guidance it takes to pursue a rewarding pharmacy career.

This program is led by knowledgeable registered Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists with years of experience working directly in the field. You get the firsthand skills employers are looking for, including the following:

• Solid understanding of medical and pharmaceutical terminology
• The ability to interpret a prescription and the associated abbreviations
• An extensive understanding of various dosage forms and therapeutic classifications of medications

You’ll feel comfortable moving into professional pharmacy environments after training in our onsite lab facility and getting hands-on training using the industry-standard pharmacy management software “PharmaClik.”

Industry Certification

The program is designed to meet the requirements set by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA), Canadian Pharmacy Technician Educators Association (CPTEA) and the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).

Real-World Lab Experience

During the last 8 weeks of the program you’ll supplement your in-class training with an “on the job”  placement, so you can get a feel for your new career and gain valuable industry contacts before you graduate.

In Class or Online?

Algonquin Careers Academy offers a variety of programs both in-class and online so that you can chose which format best meets your needs.

Our online programs consist of scheduled sessions (lecture provided by live video with your instructor), lessons based on your schedule delivered through our Learner Management System and, for specific programs, on campus scheduled laboratory sessions. This is commonly referred to as Blended Learning.
